About Dandeli

Dandeli is one of the 57 Karnataka cities in the Nirmal Nagar - Municipal eGovernance Project. Dandeli is picturesque city set amidst the backdrop of the western Ghats. There is a strong belief that the city named as Dandeli after Dandelappa, a loyal  servant of the Mirashi landlords who lost his life because of his loyalty. Dandeli city located at the bank of the River Kali in Uttara Kannada District. Which is 117 KM from Karwar, 75 KM from Hubli, 57 KM from Dharwad, 481 Km from Banglore. Dandeli is surrounded by natural, Historic and Religious sports. The caves Cavla, Synteri rocks, Ulavi temple, Sykes points, The supa dams(a 2*50 MW hydro-electric power station) etc. Kali river is the main source of water. People of the city come from many different states of India. They are very good examples for "Unity in Diversity" with there different culture and languages . So Dandeli is recognized as "MINI INDIA".

Wildlife Sanctuary:

Dandeli is a Natural habitat for wildlife, including tigers, leopards, Black Panthers, Elephants, Deer, Bears. It is the second  largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka. and was designated as a Tiger Reserve in 2007. Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is abirdwatchers paradise, housing nearly 200 species of birds. most famous for the great hornbilland Malabar pied hornbill.

The natural beauty of the are attracts tourists from other parts of India and abroad. It is an adventure sports destination and a White-water rafting destination in South India. It is one of the few locations where rafting is possible even in the peak summer month of March to June. .
